Why the Wuben X5 Is More Than Just a Flashlight
The Wuben X5 first appeared at ISPO 2025 as an early prototype, offering only a brief glimpse at the time. After more than a year of refinement, it has now officially launched.
Rather than positioning itself as a traditional outdoor flashlight, Wuben X5 is designed as an EDC-oriented multifunctional tool light. Its focus is simple: instant usability and multi-scenario versatility, making it a reliable companion for everyday carry.

Design & Build: Clean, Flat, and Purpose-Driven

The most distinctive feature of the Wuben X5 is its flat rectangular form factor, which clearly sets it apart from conventional cylindrical flashlights. Its design language is defined by clean straight lines, resulting in a minimalist and highly structured appearance with no protruding elements.
On the side, Wuben X5 integrates a mode selection wheel, a battery indicator, and a concealed USB-C charging port hidden under a sliding cover.

Its slim profile makes it significantly more comfortable for pocket carry, avoiding the bulkiness often associated with traditional flashlights. A wide, reversible pocket clip further enhances usability, allowing the light to be mounted on either side depending on user preference.

The body is precision-machined from 6061 aluminum alloy with a hard anodized finish, delivering a solid, premium feel. The edges are smooth and well-controlled, giving the X5 a refined industrial aesthetic.
Cooling is assisted by four vertical heat dissipation grooves on each side of the driver section, which also add subtle visual detail to the design.

A particularly practical detail is the included braided lanyard, which doubles as a USB-C charging cable. It functions both as a wrist strap and a backup charging solution, reducing the need to carry additional accessories.

Triple-Light System: Three Tools in One Body

Wuben X5 integrates three independent light sources at the front:
  • Luminus SST36F 5000K white LED
  • 365nm UV LED (2W)
  • 515nm green laser (3mW, Class 3R)
These are arranged in a single optical system with white light on the right, UV on the left, and the green laser centered.
A side selector wheel controls mode switching between White Light, UV, and Lock. The wheel provides strong tactile feedback, making accidental switching unlikely.

The actual operation is handled by dual tail switches:
  • Left button: Green laser
  • Right button: White light / UV control
This separation ensures each function remains intuitive and independent.

White Light

The white light supports both momentary and constant-on operation via a two-stage switch. It also features mode memory, recalling the last-used brightness level.

Five brightness levels are available:
Eco (1 lm), Low (50 lm), Medium (150 lm), High (350 lm), and Turbo (1300 lm).

A quick double half-press activates strobe mode, while another quick press returns to the previous setting.

UV Light

The UV mode operates in a simplified single-output configuration, with both momentary and constant-on support.
The 365nm UV emitter is useful for detecting fluorescent materials, inspecting documents and banknotes, and activating glow-in-the-dark objects.

Green Laser

The 515nm green laser offers strong visibility at night and can be activated at any time unless the device is locked.
Its sharp, highly visible beam makes it suitable for presentations, astronomy, outdoor signaling, and general pointing tasks.
As with all laser products, it should not be directed into eyes or reflective surfaces.

Combined Use

Wuben X5 allows simultaneous operation of the green laser with either white light or UV mode.
This enables users to illuminate a scene while precisely marking a target point, or to combine UV inspection with directional indication when needed.

Performance & Power

At maximum output, Wuben X5 delivers:
  • 1300 lumens
  • 10,000 candela
  • 200-meter beam distance
Turbo mode is sustained briefly before stepping down to a stable output of around 400 lumens, balancing brightness and thermal management.
The dual-stage switch also enables momentary activation, making Wuben X5 suitable for quick, silent tactical-style use.

Power System & Charging

Unlike many flat-profile flashlights that rely solely on built-in batteries, Wuben X5 uses a removable 1200mAh battery pack and is also compatible with AAA batteries.
This hybrid power system greatly improves real-world usability. When charging is unavailable, users can simply replace the battery and continue using the light.
Battery replacement is quick and straightforward via a sliding lock mechanism at the tail section.
Charging is handled via a hidden USB-C port located under a sliding cover on the head of the light. The device supports 5V/1.2A input and fully charges in approximately 1.5 hours.
Battery status is displayed via a side indicator:
  • Blue: 90–100%
  • Flashing Blue: 40–90%
  • Red: 15–40%
  • Flashing Red: below 15%
The indicator activates when the light is turned on and automatically turns off after 5 seconds.
Wuben X5 is rated IP65 for dust and water resistance, making it suitable for daily outdoor use in rain and dusty environments, though it is not designed for submersion.

Final Thoughts

Wuben X5 is not intended to replace high-output dedicated flashlights. Instead, it focuses on being a practical and versatile everyday carry tool.

By elevating UV and laser functions to the same level as white light, Wuben has created a compact multi-tool that fits naturally into daily life scenarios—from inspections and presentations to general illumination.

Its flat design improves pocket comfort, while the intuitive control system ensures quick access to all functions. Combined with its triple-light setup and flexible power system, the X5 stands out as a genuinely useful EDC light designed for real-world use.
In short, the best EDC tool is the one you actually carry—and the X5 makes a strong case for exactly that.
