Wuben E8 Review: Modular 3-in-1 EDC Flashlight For Everyday Carry

In this review, we take a closer look at build quality, user interface, lighting modes, beam output, battery charging, personalization, and what actually makes the E8 more than just an EDC flashlight.

What's in the package?

The Wuben E8 is sitting in the carrier, while the accessories are under the carrier: The manual, each Wuben package standard black lanyard, a Type-C charging cable, and two spare waterproof O-rings. The most important thing I want to point out is these 6 magnetic inserts. More on these later, but it’s super cool and fun! Here's what you get:

Build Quality & Design

User Interface & Operation

• Power On / Off ( with Memory Function): Press once → light on → press again → light off
• Mode Switching: 4 quick taps → Main → Side → UV → back to Main
• Brightness Levels:
  • Main light: long press → Low → Med → High→ Low
  • Side light: tap → Low → High → Beacon→ Low
  • UV light: Single 2W 365nm output level

The feature of UV light is unusual in flashlights; it automatically turns off after 2 minutes to ensuring safe.

• Main light: The main LED provides a dual SST-36F ( 5000k neutral white beam) suitable for general EDC tasks, handles quick tasks, and inspections. The beam is balanced between flood and throw, prioritizing usability. Including:

   The 3 side LEDs, especially when used with magnetic diffuser covers, produce a   wide and soft light pattern ideal for:

    The automatic UV shut-off helps prevent unnecessary UV exposure.

Batteries & Charging

I prefer flashlights that use readily available AA batteries for dependable, long-term use, as Wuben's flashlights have most of the batteries that can be replaced. The Wuben E8 appeals to me because it also offers the option of a rechargeable 14500 Li-ion battery with USB-C charging. For optimal performance, use the WUBEN 14500 920mAh battery. Charging time is approximately 3 hours for me. A low-battery warning system flashes the light three times every five minutes when the voltage drops, helping prevent unexpected shutdowns. Note: AA Alkaline & Carbon batteries are not recommended.

Modularity & Personalization

The most modular aspect is that you could print your own customization shells with spare magnetic inserts. (3D printing files)

2. Tritium tubes Ready: The E8's personalized design goes far beyond this. Six 1.5*6mm tritium tubes of different colors can be installed at the tail end. The self-illuminating properties of the tritium tubes give them a faint fluorescence, making them easy to spot even as decoration.
